Traveling with golf clubs and no access to a gym? Turns out your golf bag makes for a great training tool, and it’s awkwardness actually provides a fun challenge.
Here’s one of my favorites from my workout today:
Single Leg Deadlift
A few keys:
- Definitely make sure you can execute this move without weight first
- Focus on feeling your entire foot planted firmly in the ground
- To initiate the motion, I like to feel the heel on my free leg elevate first
- Posture is essential, the spine needs to be neutral with shoulder blades down and back
- Hello glutes! Your standing leg should be having a glute celebration but the elevating one needs to engage as well
Enjoy!

I'm Shawn, Performance Coach at Golfletica in Bellevue, Wa. I specialize in bringing out the awesome in athletes, especially golfers. 13 years ago I graduated from the home of the 2010 FCS Football Champions (Go Eags!) with a degree in Exercise Science and a broken down body from playing college golf. That lead to my mission to help the world move better, with less pain and killer dance moves. Thanks to the help of my partner in crime Dr. Harry Sese, not only am I playing pain free golf but I get to witness lives change everyday through the power of teamwork.
