Today I did something I haven’t done in 10 years…..I played golf with an organized group of women. Yes, I joined a women’s division! It may not seem like a huge deal, but since I stopped playing at Sahalee when I was 25, I hadn’t considered joining a local group. It became apparent last week at PNGA Cup though, that much of what I’m struggling with on the course has to do with my playing alone all the time.
So I found a group that plays on the weekend and also one that opens the door to playing in a few other organizations.
I have to admit I was a bit nervous, playing with a group I’ve never met and on top of that we did a 2 person best ball today. You would think with all the golf I’ve played over the years this would be no big deal. But my introverted ways have carried over to the course and because of that my mental game is lacking. I need more opportunities to play with some tournament pressure in order to get better.
It was a great day on the course despite the clouds opening up a few times on the back nine. I made some great 5 foot putts to save par and dropped a couple long birdies. My struggles off the tee were there, but I worked through them better than last week and recovered well. Small steps forward, but steps non the less.
And I’m already looking forward to the next get together in a few weeks!
Cheers to a summer of improvement!
